I am a writer who values stories and the people who tell them. My goal for every story is simple - to tell it truthfully and to tell it well.
I began my writing career as a student at The University of Alabama, writing articles for the UA Alumni Magazine. I learned the importance of marketing, first as an intern at Southern Progress Corporation and later as editor and publisher of my own monthly publication, The Alabama Reader.
In 1995, I began writing for The Alabama Baptist newspaper. In the years since, I have written hundreds of news and feature articles on topics related to faith, health, and travel.
I have won several writing awards:
"Faith and Family" - First Place, BCA Wilmer C. Fields Award, Feature Writing Series/Package
"War on Poverty" - Third Place, BCA Wilmer C. Fields Award, Feature Writing Series/Package
"Protect Your Church at Christmas" - Third Place, BCA Wilmer C. Fields Award, Single Article 750-1,000 words
"Planning Ahead Helps Make Nursing Home Choices Easier" - First Place, 2007 Evangelical Press Association Cause of the Year Category
I also teach writing, develop websites for small to mid-size organizations, and write grants for local schools and nonprofits. I am working on a book about a Christian missionary from China, which I hope to see published in 2016.
In my free time, I love to spend time with my family. We enjoy reading, cycling, and listening to audiobooks as we explore the highways of America in our RV on our quest to visit all 50 states.

Acronyms usually don’t stick with me, but I’ve never forgotten learning HOMES, the acronym for the Great Lakes. Remember? While most of us think of the lakes separately, all five – Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, and Superior – are actually connected through a series of waterways, forming one system that leads like aquatic steps from the headwaters of Lake Superior to the Atlantic Ocean.
A few years ago, our family took a memorable “Great Lakes Adventure” road trip. In addition to visiting all five lakes, we toured the lighthouse at Whitefish Point on Lake Superior, where the U.S. Coast Guard got its start, enjoyed a great day on Mackinac Island, and rode the Maid of the Mist into the swirling fog created by the thundering Niagara Falls. The original story was published in Highways magazine, the magazine for members of the Good Sam Club. You can click Great Lakes Adventure to read the entire story and see
photos from our trip.
